Pendleton History Museums
Ashtabula. This house museum, built in the 1829s, contains may fine period furnishings and historic items. It is three miles east of town on SC Hwy 88. Open April through October, or by appt. 864-646-7249.
Hunter's Store. The headquarters of the Pendleton District Historical, Recreational and Tourism Commission has historical exhibits and frequently changes displays. Information at the office is available on many historic and tourism sites in the region. Also in the building is a local history and genealogy library. Corner of N Mechanic and E Queen Streets in the heart of the National Register downtown. Monday-Friday 9-4:30. 864-646-3782.
Pendleton District Agricultural Museum. Pre-1925 farm equipment and tools, along with Cherokee Indian and local history artifacts, are in this 6,000 square foot building, resembling a race horse barn which earlier was on the property. US Hwy 76, across from Tri-County Technical College. By appt. 864-646-3782.
Woodburn Plantation. A house museum, built ca. 1830 by Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, contains period furnishings and historic items. The Adger and Smythe families were also early owners. US Hwy 76 adjacent to the agricultural museum. 864-646-7249.
