Annual State of
Pendleton Address
Fall Greetings continued . . .
These weird people embrace everyday of every season. Whether it's a beautiful spring morning or there is snow on the ground - they are excited. Sometimes I just want to slap'em.

They walk up to you on a cold rainy winter day, tilt that umbrella back, and offer up the same warm "Hey, so good to see you" southern greeting they shared with you earlier in the spring.

I am convinced they are on a drug that even pharmacist Greg Bauld has no knowledge of.

How dare they be so happy? The economy is lousy, people are having a tough time, and they continue to flash that warm smile and tell you how glad they are to see you. I guess if they were like me and had to deal with the inevitable certainty of having to winterize a boat that I enjoyed all summer they would not be so happy - or would they?

They probably would. I have heard it said that these weird people, many of who live right here in Pendleton, have undergone a life-changing event in their lives. They think every day is a gift; they think that the seasons will change just as they have for millions of years. They actually think that they can control how they embrace the changing seasons. Yea, good luck with that attitude. I have even heard it said that they count their blessings every single day.

So I offer the following warning. Watch out for these people this fall. They are as infectious as a winter cold. I am pretty sure there is no cure available for them. They were happy last fall and they will be happy this fall.
